Life Care Community Services Food Bank
- Mission: Provides food and clothing to Kitsap County residents as an
outreach of Spirit of Life Lutheran Church. The food bank has operated since 2001 and currently
distributes about 10,000 meals each year.
- Contributions: Food and cash contributions are received from a variety of community members
and organizations including local schools and churches, Friends of Givens Seniors, Kitsap Transit,
Fred Meyer Foundation, Olalla Post Office and others.
- Staffing: The food bank is staffed by members of Spirit of Life Lutheran Church along with
non-member community residents.
- Eligibility: To receive food and clothing, eligibility depends on residence
within the service area of the food bank, defined as that area within south Kitsap County bounded
on the north by Sedgwick Road and on the south by the Pierce County line, extending from Puget
Sound to Mason County.
- Proof of Residency: At their first visit, clients are required to show an official document
(e.g. utility bill, financial statement) mailed to them at their place of residence within the
service area.
- Frequency: Clients may receive a food grant about once per month although the intent of the
food bank policy is to direct assistance primarily on an emergency basis,
referring long-term needs to the Washington State food assistance program through DSHS.
- Exclusivity: It is assumed that clients will not make use
of other food banks while receiving assistance from Life Care Community Services Food Bank.
